Intersecting Exponentials

When drawing exponential curves and their inverses on the same sketch I have never been quite sure whether I should let them intersect or not. Do they ever intersect? If they do, then under what conditions? Or is drawing these curves with intersection points just plain wrong? I decided to find out once and for all...
